چکیده

AC Electro-osmosis (ACEO) is a newly developed microfluidic mechanism, which can transport fluids and particles with low voltage that is suitable for integration with IC circuitry. We observed line formation of particles on electrodes by ACEO, leading to better understanding of ACEO microflows. Also by identifying a new ACEO mechanism from electrochemical reaction, we developed Asymmetric Polarization (A-P) ACEO technique, adding another dimension to ACEO. Both simulation and experiments have been performed to promote the understanding and optimization of ACEO devices. The experimental result of A-P ACEO is also presented in this paper.

Experimental Study of Electrolyte Dependence of Ac Electroosmotic Pumps

Recent studies indicate increased efficiency of microfluidic ac electro-osmotic pumps by utilizing broken symmetries with raised steps on the electrodes. An experimental study on the dependence of ac electroosmosis in microchannels on solution chemistry for the new fast aceo stepped pumps is reported. Micro PIV was used to determine peak velocities for M mM ! " concentrations of KCl, NaCl, CaCl...

Model based design of a microfluidic mixer driven by induced charge electroosmosis.

Mixing chemical or biological samples with reagents for chemical analysis is one of the most time consuming operations on microfluidic platforms. This is primarily due to the low rate of diffusive transport in liquid systems. Additionally, much research has focused on detection, rather than sample preparation. In response, we describe a mixer for microfluidic sample preparation based on the ele...

Particle detection by electrical impedance spectroscopy with asymmetric-polarization AC electroosmotic trapping

Recently, considerable interest and effort have been devoted to the on-site detection of low-concentration pathogenic bacteria in order to deter infectious diseases and bioterrorism. Conventionally, bacteria detection involves culturing, which is time-consuming and unfeasible under field conditions. Microfluidic devices with integrated electrical detection will enable fast, low-cost, and portab...

Simulation Analysis of Improving Microfluidic Heterogeneous Immunoassay Using Induced Charge Electroosmosis on a Floating Gate

On-chip immuno-sensors are a hot topic in the microfluidic community, which is usually limited by slow diffusion-dominated transport of analytes in confined microchannels. Specifically, the antigen-antibody binding reaction at a functionalized area cannot be provided with enough antigen source near the reaction surface, since a small diffusion flux cannot match with the quick rate of surface re...

Improved Protein Binding Rate for Bio- Sensors Using Ac Electroosmosis

Many biosensors are limited by long detection times that result from transport limitations of large macromolecules such as proteins which must reach the active surface in order to be detected. To overcome this difficulty, a common biosensor, the quartz crystal microbalance was modified with a microelectrode pattern capable of producing AC electroosmosis. The mixing pattern that is thereby gener...
